When I was young, my Elementary School put on a craft show for local crafters to show their work and I was there all day helping my sister with her table. Right next to us was a school friends mom who did real life drawings in pen and ink. To this day I still remember how it fascinated me, the ability, the contrast, and the all around basic form of it all. Fast forward YEARS later and when I was in art school, I took a course called "Illustration I" which dealt with graphite work of the same manner. In "Illustration II" it went into inks....and I was hooked. The feel of the pen, the flow of the ink, the resistance of the paper to the pen, I loved it all, so much that I wanted to do more and my instructor went on to MAKE an "Illustration III" just for me, private study.
These days, as I am getting older, I am in love with the simplicity of it all and it's ability to go in ANY direction at ANY time, thats why my comic "Doodleton" has stuck with me. It's more than just art for me, it's a relaxing therapy to sit down and just...go. Corner to corner.
I love it so much that I have decided to follow "paths" of the discipline. Pen construction, for example. On April 1 of 2017 my wife and I purchased my first lathe and the equipment to go with it, so that I may learn more about the construction of pens and grow a personal collection of these incredible underrated communication devices.
Below you with find my collection of purchased and crafted writing utensils. I just thought I would put them all here.
I STILL look forward to sitting down with a piece of paper and a pen and just seeing what happens.
